Did you know there currently exist 235 copies of Shakespeare’s First Folio, the edition of his collected works published in 1623, and they can be found worldwide? Join us for a virtual lecture by Andrea Mays, who will share more about the movement of the First Folios around the world from November 1623 to the present day. Mays will cover how and why so many copies of the First Folio ended up in the United States and Japan. Viewers will also be entertained and enlightened by a performance from New Swan actors Crystal Kim and Kieran Barry, and UCI Libraries Outreach and Public Services Librarian, Derek Quezada, will provide an online viewing of UCI Libraries’ First Folio.
This event is free and open to all.
Andrea Mays is the author of The Millionaire and the Bard, the Story of Henry Folger and the Founding of the Folger Shakespeare Library.
She is a professor of economics at Cal State Long Beach.
