Unix Workshop

Online

This is a quarter-long, asynchronous course held in Canvas from Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at 12 a.m. through June 21, 2024 at 12 a.m. that you can work on the workshop when it is convenient for you. There are no required meetings.

The Unix shell has been around longer than most of its users have been alive. It has survived so long because it’s a powerful tool that allows people to do complex things with just a few keystrokes. More importantly, it helps them combine existing programs in new ways and automate repetitive tasks, so they are not typing the same things over and over again. This Carpentry-based workshop will cover files and directories, pipes, filters, loops, and shell scripts.

Total course participation time is approximately 4 hours. There is an option to receive an Alternative Digital Credential for this workshop by completing an additional assignment.

For more information, please contact Danielle Kane in Digital Scholarship Services at libdss@uci.edu. Registered participants will receive invites to the Canvas workshop on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.
